Hostile Internal Culture

Internal staff channels are meant to be professional, respectful spaces. After Hamas' October 7 attacks, many became unmoderated arenas for harassment, antisemitism, and unchecked anti-Zionism—with leadership nowhere to be seen. In May, 2024, a staffer at an international NGO responded to a map posted in the internal channel "The Final Phase of the Gaza Genocide" - in which the hole in the "O" in genocide was shaped like the modern day state of Israel. When they asked what it was supposed to imply, the response was similar to countless others that have flooded internal channels in the past couple of years - particularly directed at Jewish and Israeli staff: aggressive, personal, thinly veiled, uneven in its outrage - and flouting internal standards of exchange. No challenge is permitted; "apartheid" "white privilege" "colonialism" "genocide" are all hurled as epithets to silence and shut down exchange. EXCERPT (see attachment) "What means the map in the O of genocide?" Hi @ [REDACTED]. I'm not sure why the map triggered you. If anything, it reflects the immense power you hold within this reality. It shows a reality where Palestinians are ethnically fragmented, and governed under a regime that grants you disproportionate power and access to resources- simply because you're not Palestinian. This map doesn't attack you; it exposes a system of apartheid that benefits you."
