"Sinwar...Legend!"

Social media is a gray zone for human rights and humanitarian organizations - often bypassing any review of editorial standards. Racist, incendiary statements are often excused as “personal opinions," shared in a private capacity, and as not necessarily reflecting the organization’s position. But that caveat is often flimsy—staff accounts frequently include identifying work links, making the content effectively institution-adjacent. More importantly, “private” expression doesn’t answer the deeper concern: when views veer into racism, discrimination, or dehumanization, it raises unaddressed questions about how that person functions in a rights-based workplace, affects colleagues, and whether those biases seep into the work. On Oct 18, 2024, Veronica Koman, a researcher/campaigner for Amnesty International posted in Indonesian her praise for the mastermind of Hamas' Oct 7 massacres :

“My respect to Yahya Sinwar, truly the leader of Palestinian independence. He was born in a Gaza refugee camp, and breathed his last while fighting on the front lines of Gaza. Legend!!

(original: ) “Hormat saya untuk Yahya Sinwar, sejatinya pemimpin kemerdekaan Palestina. Ia lahir di kamp pengungsi Gaza, dan menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya berperang di garis depan Gaza. Legend!!
